Reflections is a terrific program encouraging students to express their thoughts and feelings about a specific subject through the creative arts. This year's theme is "I Can Make a Difference By ..."
The six categories for submission are: 1) Dance Choreography 2) Film/Video Production
3) Literature 4) Musical Composition 5) Photography 6) Visual Arts
Students in all grades may submit in any of the six categories. The applications have already been distributed (this year we had 158 requests for applications - the most we've ever received) and the deadline for submission is November 7th. At that time we'll need three judges in each category with expertise in the subject matter to judge the students' submissions based upon two criteria:
1) Interpretation of the theme
2) Creative ability
Judging will be arranged around the judge's schedules.
There will be about a month to judge the submissions and choose the three best in each category to receive Awards of Excellence and advance to the next level. In addition, Awards of Merit can be given to up to two others submissions in each category that the judges may feel should be recognized. Every student receives a medal for participating in the program and all the submissions are displayed at the libraries during the month of February.
We hope that NAC members will want to participate in all the categories because it's an opportunity to make the school community aware of the tremendous artistic resource we have right here in Northport.
