SEPTEMBER 2007

The entire NAC Board hopes you had a wonderful, creative summer.  We are now back in full swing.  NAC thanks the East Northport Chamber of Commerce for giving the NAC Executive Board and NAC aritsts a 10 by 10 space at their Annual Arts and Crafts Street Fair Festival on Saturday and Sunday  September 8th and  9th between 11AM and 5:30PM.  We will be there on the 8th. All are invited!

Tara Kavanagh, director of the Northport Opera Company is attending New Jersey City University to pursue a master's degree in opera performance. She was accepted into the opera performance program at NJCU (New Jersey City University). She has already begun rehearsals for Violetta in La Traviata, which will go up in mid-October.   She has assured us that she will stay in touch and be involved with the the Northport Opera Company. BRAVO, TARA!  We welcome Terry Lister who has replaced Tara’s position as secretary and is now a member of the executive board.

We are currently writing grants to help us support and bring the arts to our community and meeting with NAC program coordinators. We are also looking into showing old films at Northport Park, working on our next Plein Air Event, planning two Sunday in the Park Events for next summer, and reorganizing NAC Poets in Port. We are especially pleased with our growing membership and are pleased to hear their suggestions and ideas which help us promote the arts and look forward to a great year ahead!  Lauren Paige executive Director

THEATER

BREE WILLIAMSON FROM ABC’S ONE LIFE TO LIVE STARS IN BAREFOOT IN THE PARK AT THE JOHN W. ENGEMAN THEATER AT NORTHPORT ON AUGUST 23

The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport, Long Island’s only year-round professional theater company, is pleased to announce its next production, BAREFOOT IN THE PARK.  The production will feature Bree Williamson of ABC’s ONE LIFE TO LIVE, Todd Lawson, Susan Bigelow, Robert Lydiard and Frank Stellato.  Neil Simon's second play, BAREFOOT IN THE PARK, is the classic romantic comedy about a conservative young lawyer Paul Bratter and his free-spirited newlywed bride Corie. The comedy follows the young couple as they move from the giddy joy of a six day honeymoon at The Plaza, into the crazy reality of starting married life in a fifth-floor walkup in New York City. Of course it doesn’t help that the apartment is absolutely bare of furniture, the paint job came out all wrong, the skylight leaks snow, there isn't room for a double bed, and an outlandish neighbor who lives in a loft on the roof uses it, and the window ledge, as the only access to his padlocked premises. A joyful night of comedy for all! BAREFOOT IN THE PARK will run from August 23, 2007 through September 23, 2007

Single tickets are now on sale and are $45.  Tickets may be purchased by calling (631) 261-2900, by visiting www.engemantheater.com, or at the Engeman Theater Box Office at 250 Main Street, Northport. Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express accepted.
