NAC Wednesday: November 12th, 2008 at 7pm The Northport Arts Coalition in cooperation with the Northport Library is proud to present Luminescent Orchestrii. Romanian gypsy melodies,, salty tangos, rocking klezmer, haunting Balkan harmony, hip-hop beats and Appalachian fiddle, violin, resophonic guitar, bullhorn harmonica and bass. The fall
season highlight for Northport High School
Marching Band members was the annual
Newsday Marching Band Festival at Hofstra University.
This was a three-evening event, which showcased 45 different
marching bands from Long Island. The Northport Tiger
Marching Band was a founding member of this 46-year festival and has
long held the honor of performing last, to close out the individual band
performances. They also cadence the other 14 bands
back onto the field for a grand finale of "America the Beautiful".
This year, the football team assembled to send off the band, as
10 buses headed out of the high school parking lot for the big event.
Sitting in the audience stands on that chilly evening, were
almost 900 Northport parents, family members, students, alumni, friends,
faculty and administrators as this year's show, "Tiger Playlist",
comprising five styles of music (latin, swing, jazz, funk and classical)
resonated throughout the beautiful stadium. Video
highlights and photos are posted on

Izzet Mergen announces that the Northport High School Faculty Scholarship Concert has been officially rescheduled for Friday, February 27th, 2009, due to unforeseen conflicts with a night football game. This is an annual event where the entire music department performs a variety of styles, genres, etc. One can hear anything from a vocal solo of an Italian Aria from the 1500’s to a jazz combo to a latin band. There is no fee for the concert, but donations are accepted for the Northport High School Scholarship Fund. They are proud to deliver six separate scholarships each June for students going to college, majoring in music or music education.
