The Northport Arts Coalition, in cooperation with the Northport public library, presents cellist Dustin Bartley and music students from the Northport/E.Northport school district.  Almost 15 years ago, Dustin, a graduate of Northport High School, began his study of the cello in the school district’s summer music program.  Nearly 10 years later, he returned not as a student, but as a teacher.  Through this program and the other musical opportunities presented by the community, students and aspiring teachers alike are able to hone their skills and share in the wonderful experience of making music.  Dustin is a graduate of Long Island University’s C.W. Post Campus, with a B.M. in Music Education.  He has maintained a private studio of students since his junior year in high school, and has recently begun teaching full time in the Port Jefferson school district.  Most of his students are products of the Northport music program, but he also has had the pleasure of working with beginning adult musicians.  In honor of the Northport Arts Coalition’s 11th birthday, these talented young musicians celebrate the influence that the community has had on the musical development of both teacher and student.  7:00 p.m. at the Northport Public Library, 151 Laurel Ave.  For additional information visit www.northportarts.org or call 631 261-6930.  Free Admission.

April 5 - The Northport Arts Coalition Wine Cellar Art Show Series, in cooperation with Matthew Spirn of the Northport Tasting Room and Wine Cellar, will present a photography exhibit, by Burt Reminick.  Burt Reminick seeks to capture the beauty of both nature and man’s creations. A former engineer and systems analyst, Burt sees photography as a way to reveal the wondrous shapes, colors and formations surrounding us.  He is a patient, deliberate artist who waits for the mist to rise off the water, the snow to fall on treetops, the exact moment the mother swan gathers with her cygnets.  His photographs have been sold and exhibited in art galleries on Long Island, where he resides.  Reminick believes, "The world is alive with color, a place of energy and serenity. Through my photos, I am hoping you will feel the excitement of crouching so close to a butterfly you can see the grains of pollen on its proboscis, discover patterns in a meadow of flowers growing randomly up a mountainside, and sense the tranquility of horses grazing in a field.  Fleeting moments can live on." An opening reception will be held at the Northport Wine Tasting Room, 70 Main St., Northport from 2 to 5 p.m. April 5.  Reminick's work will be on exhibit through May 14, 2009.  Artists interested in exhibiting may contact Kate Kelly at kate@katekellyart.com for an application form.
