NAC Wednesday The Northport Arts Coalition in cooperation with the Northport /East Northport Library presents: An Evening of South Indian Carnatic Music. This performance will provide the unusual opportunity to experience the vibrant and captivating sounds of Carnatic classical music from South India. Aaron Paige and Joseph Getter, both long time students of Carnatic drumming and flute, will explore the incredible rhythmic complexity, improvisational nature, and spiritual depth of this fascinating musical tradition. The performance will be followed by a workshop in which audience members will be introduced to South India's spoken drum language, solkattu. Together we will recite drum syllables while clapping out hands in cyclic rhythmic patterns. A question and answer session will follow.
