The Northport Arts Coalition Tasting Room Gallery: Pastscapes exhibit,

A call to NAC members to conduct Youth Art Workshops! Youth Directions
and Alternatives (YDA) in East Northport is looking to plan some art
groups for the youth that attend their programs, single workshops or
8-10 week programs with local artists interested in volunteering. If you
would like to share some of your talent and passion with children who
have little or no art background, please email

. All disciplines are welcome, (dance, painting, music, etc.)Time frames
for workshops will be range between 3 and 6 PM, Mondays through

Plein Air: Once again the region’s most accomplished plein air painters
will gather in Northport, Long Island for the Northport Arts Coalition’s
3rd Annual Plein Air Painting Event. On Friday and Saturday, June 26th
and2027th, selected artists will be set up in locations throughout the
village, painting their interpretations of the scenery that is so unique
to Northport. On both days spectators can observe the creative process
from start to finish and talk with the artists as they work. Sunday,
June 28th, will feature an exhibition and silent auction for the “wet”
paintings at LaMantia Gallery. Interested artists please find prospectus

The Northport Reader's Theater, under the auspices of the Northport Arts
Coalition, will be reading the play "V" by Claude Solnik, a play about
Victoria Woodhull, who became the first woman stock broker, the first
woman to testify before Congress, and the first woman to run for
president, at a time when women weren’t even allowed to vote, followed
by a discussion with the playwright. All are welcome to read or to

evenings include a featured poet plus open reading - the audience is
encouraged to bring their poems and participate. March’s featured poet
is: Doug Swezey.
MUSIC
Ridotto, Concerts "with a Touch of Theatre", presents “Refugee in New
York”. The increasing threat of Nazism prompted many artists to seek
voluntary exile in the United States. Bela Bartok, Martinu, Vittorio
Rieti settled in New York. Artists like Mondrian, Saint-Exupery, Breton,
and Max Ernst made their home in a city that was exciting and
overwhelming. The concert includes Bartok's brilliant and nostalgic
Rhapsody II for violin and the trio 'Contrasts', Martinu's Sonatina
('47), and more. Performers are Roman Simovic, violin, Tatiana Go
ncharova, piano, Igor Begelman, clarinet, and Margaretha Maimone
narrator; Sunday March 8, 2009 at 4 pm. in Old First Church, on Rt. 25A

Annual Huntington Youth Writes writing Contest, for students and/or
residents of the Town of Huntingtonin (Grade levels 4-5, 6-8, 9-12)
$2,000in cash prizes, Prizes in each grade level. Winning Entries will
be published) Poetry, Short Fiction, essays. Entries must be received by

Juried Open Show----Going Green The Art Guild invites all artists, 18
years and older (Students ages 15-17 years may enter in the student
category), to submit digital images of their 2D or 3D works for
consideration for its Going Green, Juried Co mpetition and Exhibition.
In honor of Earth Day, works submitted should reflect the ever expanding
concept of "Going Green," which can include, but is not limited to, the
choices we make when buying cars, fuel, detergent, light bulbs, even the
foods we eat, and how we recycle. Our aim is to help raise public
awareness by presenting images that will help illustrate our
responsibility to honor the earth. Imagery may reflect the positive
effects of going green. All work should be original and done by hand. No
mechanical reproductions, Giclees, or photography. Landscapes, still
lifes or abstract works, etc. are all suitable. The Selection
Committee's decision is final. Works are to be submitted by digital
image on a CD. All entries must be post marked no later than March 14,
2009. Accepted entries must be available from April 1, 2009 through
April 27, 2009. Works must be properly framed and wired and must not be
larger than 48"H by 36"W including the frame. The size and weight limits
for three dimensional entries will be no larger than, 24"H by 36"W
weight not to exceed 50 Lbs. Artists must provide stands for these
works.Cash prizes will be awarded with 1st place $350.00, 2nd place
$250.00 and 3rd. place $150.00. Honorable Mention certificates will also
be awarded.
"Going Green", will open to the20public April 4th, 2009. There will be
an artist's reception and awards ceremony on April, 18th from 3:00-5:00
pm. at Elderfields.

Shoulder Stand will be included in the upcoming juried exhibition, "A
Pinch and A Dash" which runs from March 28 - April 19 at Mills Pond
House Gallery in St. James. The exhibition, juried by Dr. Connie
Koppelman of SUNY Stony Brook, seeks to examine the American woman's
changing role in the kitchen.

The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport, is proud to announce the
return of the John W. Engeman School for Acting! The theater will
release details on their Spring and Summer sessions on MARCH 1, 2009.
This exciting program returns after a one year lapse due to space
restrictions at the theater. "We recently acquired a pime location for a
new rehearsal studio right on Main Street," says Executive Producer
Kevin J. O'Neill, "We will now have the facility to resume our acting
school in a first class environment." "Our programs are designed to
enrich and enlighten20children while also teaching them theater
