April 14th -The Northport Arts Coalition, in cooperation with the Northport/E. Northport Library, celebrates NAC's dozen years of "making Northport a vibrant hub of the arts and humanities". Some of the premier poets of Long Island will be performing works of Walt Whitman, including Andrea Rowen, George Wallace, Kempton Boone van Hoff, Michelle Whittaker, Tara Propper, Christina Rau, Will Steiglitz, Kerry Cowan, and Mankh...along with special guest Walt Whitman impersonator Darryl Ford. Demonstrating Whitman's wide and lasting influence with music by Maria Fairchild. Settings of Whitman's "A Clear Midnight" and "Song of the Open Road" by composer and pianist Jane Leslie, sung by tenor Bruce Solomon. At 7pm, Join us for some party fare and socializing afterwards.

LI's Biggest Fundraiser for Haiti will be held on April 11 at the Cinema Arts Center. There will be a family concert at 2:00 with six acts including Patricia Shih performing with Dick Kniss, Peter, Paul and Mary's bass player; an adult concert at 6:00 featuring ten acts including Toby Walker; and a dance at 8:00 with a '50s and '60s rock band and a 10-piece swing orchestra. Congratulations to Mr. Frank Doyle! NYSSMA received a grant from the New York State Attorney General’s Office for use in the creation of a DVD entitled NYSSMA Music Views: Standards-Based Teaching & Learning Across the State, to provide the music teaching and learning community a resource that deepens educational understanding of the New York State Arts and National Content Standards through exemplary models of instruction. He is one of the featured exemplary model teachers who presented a composition lesson titled, "Lennon, McCartney and You Guys" where students compose background harmonies for a Beatle hit.

The dynamic Canadian-Israeli pianist Michael Berkovsky was the winner of
the 2007 Yale Gordon Competition, the Russian Music Competition, and the
Juilliard Concert Competition. He will perform Beethoven’s Tempest
Sonata, Mozart Sonata KV 331 “The Turkish March” and works by Liszt,
including Liszt’s transcriptions of three Schubert songs. The
performance is Sunday, April 11, 2010 at 4 pm in Old First Church, on

May 4th to May 30th, 2010, Elizabeth Ehrlichman will show monotypes and mixed media works in Studies for Ulalume, a solo show inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s poem. They will be at the b.j. spoke gallery 299 Main Street, Huntington, open from Tuesday to Sunday 11-5 and Friday evenings until 9 PM. The artist’s reception will be Saturday, May 8 from 6 - 9 PM.
The Huntington Arts Council is seeking artists for its Seventh Annual Juried Photography Show, which will be at the Council's Main Street Petite Gallery May 5 through June 21, 2010.The juror is Neil Scholl, a street and documentary photographer whose work is in the permanent collection of the Heckscher Museum, Fenimore Art Museum, corporations and galleries. For 20 years he taught photography and graphic design at The New York Institute of Technology, Old Westbury.The exhibit is open to all artists 17 years and older; juried by CDs or photos. Northport Art Walk April 11th 2010, 4-7PM, the Northport Chamber of Commerce in association with Northport Arts Coalition will be holding a free self-guided walking tours of established and emerging artists at many galleries, studios and eclectic gallery-for-a day venues in Northport's Main Street area. 25th-27th Plein Air Painting Event: The search for
the region’s most accomplished plein air
painters
continues this June in NAC’s 4th Annual Plein
Air Painting Event. Select artists will be invited to paint
within the Village of Northport (along the harbor and Main Street) on
June 25th and 26th. At the end of the second day they
will submit one painting for a silent auction to be held June 27th at
LaMantia Gallery. Event will be held rain or shine. Sundaythe 27th
will feature an exhibition and silent auction for the “wet” paintings at
LaMantia Gallery. Prospectus will be posted next month.

The Northport Reader's Theater, under the auspices of the Northport Arts Coalition, will be reading the plays "The Eighth Dwarf” by Stephen Loomis and “Three Women” by Eileen Morrone. The readings will be followed by a discussion with the playwrights. All are welcome to read or to listen. Casting Call for New Theater Company on Long Island, Playback Theater L.I.
PlaybackNYC has received a generous grant from the Hagedorn Foundation to train and build a new improvisational theater company for Long Island. They encourage people from all walks of life and levels of experience, not just those with acting experience, to check out the details of auditioning for this new project. Playback uses music, dance, FreeStyle hip hop and improvisational theater to transform the stories of our audience into theater. Playback Theater LI will be holding a free training workshop from May 13-16, 2010 for those selected. Those selected will be working as a team, taking scripts from the audience’s memories, dreams, and social and political conflicts. From George Sidoti of New Five Star Millenium Entertainment: The play, Abigail Summers, and author, George Sidoti, received great notoriety in the March 18 edition of The Times of Northport. Sidoti now seeks actress 23-35 to play Janet, most notably known as the former lead prosecutor in the case of the State of New York vs. United Chemical. Charlotte Koons, a NAC Board Member, will be appearing as "Gran" in Drama Queens, in the Saturday afternoon, April 17th group of plays "Teen Age Angst" of NAC's One Act Play Festival. On May 12th, she will be part of Bare Bones Alumni Showcase, playing the part of the Nun, with Annette Kirk as Miss Jean Brody in scenes from "The Prime of Miss Jean Brody".
