Waltzing in the New Year! The Matthew Pierce String QuartetWaltzes
and the New Year go hand in hand as the Matthew Pierce String Quartet
performs waltzes written for San Francisco Ballet and the New York City
Ballet. The audience will be inspired to go toe to toe during
this Northport homage to the traditional Vienna Philharmonic New Year's

Do-ing Music January 22nd, at 7:30PM, NAC and Northport Public Library presents An Homage to Robert Schumann , Soprano Helene Williams, tenor Gregory Mercer, and composer/pianist Leonard Lehrman, all formerly with the Metropolitan Opera, are reunited again in a bicentennial homage to the great song and duet composer Robert Schumann (1810-1856). The program ranges from classic individual lieder to cycles on poems of von Eichendorff and Heinrich Heine, including one by Lehrman, in English translation. Don’t miss this loving, lyrical tribute to one of the earliest and most beloved German Romantics, and the gorgeous poetry he set. Northport Public Library, 151 Laurel Ave., Northport. Composer -violinist Matthew Pierce is celebrated for his new classical scores commissioned by major American ballet companies. His work has been performed around the country and around the world at City Center in New York, Covent Garden in London and the Palais Garnier in Paris. Lauded by media and musicians alike, Pierce's scores have been described as "new, tuneful, dancey" (Allen Ulrich, Voice of Dance), "the ideal musical vessel" (Steven Winn, San Francisco Chronicle), and "possibly the best commissioned score in Houston Ballet's history" (Molly Glentzer, Houston Chronicle). Pierce's work has been singled out for such critical distinctions as the 2003 Obie Awards (Village Voice) and the "Best Cultural Event of 2003" for Imaginal Disc (San Francisco Chronicle). As a violinist Pierce has performed on recordings by pop artists Jewel, Sheryl Crow and Suzanne Vega and on Philip Glass' score, Kundun. He is the conductor of the Matthew Pierce Ensemble which recently performed at the 2009 Plein Air Classical Music Festival. www.matthewpierce.com .

A Night in New Orleans, dinner and dancing will be sponsored by the Music and Ministry committee, Sat. Feb 13, 2010 from 7-10 PM featuring music of the Isotope Stompers. Dr. Roslyn Marcus will be exhibiting her thought provoking and whimsical
decoupages at the Northport Tasting Room & Wine Cellar
located at 70 Main Street in the village of Northport. All are invited
to attend the opening reception on Sunday, January 3rd, 2- 5 pm. The
exhibit will be on display through February 4th. As a practicing
psychotherapist Dr. Marcus sees her artistic renderings "as expressions
of the yearnings and desires of the subconscious mind."

The Northport Arts Coalition is run by an all volunteer board of six dedicated women, who give countless hours in service to promoting the arts in our community.
