Through her art, Barbara seeks to explore themes found in the most celebrated poetry, music and theater: idealism, ambition, lust, hope, compassion, love, fear. As a contemporary realist painter, she builds on the traditions learned from Academic painting.
In this series of drawings and paintings, Barbara has drawn inspiration from the Greek god, Dionysos.
Andrew Darby writes, "[Dionysos]
represents a force that is beyond human control but that we cannot shut out: the
force that takes possession of our minds or places us outside ourselves, in
'ecstasy.'" Through music, wine and dance, we still seek the
Dionysian as a respite from our increasingly mechanized lives.
