MARCH 10th -The Northport Arts Coalition, in cooperation with the Northport/E. Northport Library, presents "Travels to Armenia through Song" with Ruthann Turekian Drewitz, soprano and Daniel Ragone, pianist. Ruthann will share songs of her Armenian heritage that range from love songs to patriotic songs to opera. Come to the Northport Library, 151 Laurel Ave. at 7:00 p.m. to learn about this ancient civilization that is located in the southern Caucasus. For additional information call 631 261 6930. Ruthann holds a Bachelors of Music from Queens College (now the Aaron Copland School of Music) and a Masters of Music in Voice from the Manhattan School of Music where she studied with Uta Graf. She is a founding member of OperAlive!, a new group whose vision is to bring “opera alive” and to make it accessible to all audiences.
Daniel Ragone, Pianist, received his formal education at Penn State University and the University of Illinois. His credits include the musical preparation of the world premiere of "Hester Prynne at Death" by Stephen Paulus at the 92nd St. Y and the Weill Hall world premiere of vocal music by the Croatian composer Bozidar Kunc. He appears regularly at Opera Night where he sometimes directs special programs.

28th - The Northport Arts Coalition also announces a
Concert for Haiti on February 28th
starting at 7 PM at The Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew, which will be
hosted by Northport's Bassam Saba and The New
York Arabic Orchestra and will feature exciting guests in
performance ranging from traditional Haitian dance to excerpts of
influential "rock" music that transcended genre and generation, the work
of John Lennon and Maynard James Keenan, to traditional West African

March 5th Music Department Faculty
Recital. Please join the Northport-East Northport Music Teachers
as they present their 20th annual Faculty Recital to support
student scholarships. It will be held on Friday, March 5th at
7:30 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. All students are admitted free
with a suggested $5 donation for adults. Enjoy a night of eclectic music
performed by our district music teachers.
The
Northport Symphony Orchestra (formerly the Northport Community
Orchestra) seeks new members in all sections.
A diverse group, including both music professionals and those for whom
music is a joyful avocation, repertoire ranges from Baroque through
Classical and Romantic to early twentieth century, and has included
music by Bach, Telemann, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Mendelssohn, and
Vaughan Williams. Perform several times a year on our own as well
as with talented local soloists and accompany the Northport Chorale for

March 27th Gathering Time (a folk-harmony trio made up of NAC member Glen Roethel, along with Stuart Markus and Hillary Foxsong) will be performing a concert with Mike Agranoff at the Last Licks Café on Saturday, March 27th .The two acts will perform together a great number of traditional songs, as well as parodies, classics from the '60s, and original material. March 14th - The Northport Arts Coalition, in cooperation with Matthew Spirn of the Northport Tasting Room and Wine Cellar, presents a photography exhibit, "The Study of Frozen Time" by Harry Slutter. Slutter believes, "One of the wonderful things about photography is that you can freeze moments, little fractions of time. Within those moments, beauty is revealed, memories are created". Photographs will be on view March 12 - April 15. Beginning April 2010, the Northport Chamber of Commerce in association
with Northport Arts Coalition will be holding three free self-guided
walking tours of established and emerging artists at many galleries,
studios and eclectic gallery-for-a day venues in Northport's Main Street
area. The Art Walk will be a great way to check out Northport's bustling
and diverse art community, bringing visitors to enjoy possible
performances/music, restaurants, antique shops, boutiques and
cafes!Submissions are due by March 5th and will be juried by
March 11th. Artists will be notified immediately via email. Please

June
25th-27th Plein Air Painting Event: The search for
the region’s most accomplished plein air painters continues this June in
NAC’s 4th Annual Plein Air Painting Event.
Select artists will be invited to paint within the Village of Northport
(along the harbor and Main Street) on June 25th and 26th.
At the end of the second day they will submit one painting for a
silent auction to be held June 27th at LaMantia Gallery. Event will be
held rain or shine. Sunday, June 27th, will feature an exhibition and
silent auction for the “wet” paintings at LaMantia Gallery. Prospectus
will be posted next month.

Jennifer
Okubo‘s art work
will be on display for the months of March and April at the South
Setauket International Deli. She will sell her children’s book, No More
Cancer 4 Me and will be donating the proceeds to the Division of
Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at SBUMC. She will also visit the
pediatrics cancer center on March 8th for a day of drawing and reading
with the children.

Local playwrights and theater companies will collaborate to bring you new
plays performed by some of the best theater companies on Long Island!
Festival will also feature plays written by local students based on issues
concerning teen drug and alcohol abuse.Sponsored by NAC and the NPT-ENPT

Call for Artists! The Northport One Act Play Festival still has plays which have not been assigned for production. If you or your group would like to stage a short one act play on the weekend of April 16 and 17 please email northportplays@gmail.com with the ages and sex of the actors you have access to, to be offered a script which fits. Several of the plays call for 20-30 year olds, 40-50 year olds, and some include children and teens. Source for actors 7-14 available if needed for a cast.
