November 10th
, 2010 The Northport Arts Coalition, in cooperation
with the Northport/E.Northport Public library presents
Opera to Broadway: From Arias to
Show Tunes, an evening of operatic arias and Broadway hits
performed by baritone Ron Meixsell, soprano Julie Anne Meixsell, and
pianist Aglaia Messina at 7:00 p.m. at the Northport Public
Library, 151 Laurel Ave., Northport. Ron Meixsell
is equally at home in opera, oratorio performances and the intimate
Lieder repertoire. He has performed leading roles
with The New York Grand Opera, numerous solo recitals in Lincoln
Center's Bruno Walter Auditorium, and was heard on Radio Station
WQXR in a program of remembrances of Arturo Toscanini.
Julie Anne Meixsell studied music and drama at Adelphi
University, American University, Washington International College,
and the Herbert Berghof Studio. Her performance at The Smithsonian
Institute was televised as a part of the “Portraits in Motion”
series. Aglaia Messina studied at the Conservatory of Athens,
Greece. She earned her Bachelor of Music Degree
in Piano Performance at Hofstra University, where she studied with
Mortin Estron. She was a winner of the Piano
Concerto Competition at the 92nd Street Y and performed at the 92nd
Street Recital Hall. Free Admission. For additional

The Northport Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players will be
featured during the chamber music portion of Northport's monthly
Opera Night. The performance comprises members of
the Northport Symphony Orchestra playing the Carmen Fantasia by
Bizet and Haydn's Trio No. 1 in C Major. The
performance begins at 7:30 PM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church,

Touch of Theatre", presents “the Morgenstern Piano Trio”.

This Trio has conquered the great stages of Europe, with its sensitive and

Member's Exhibition is proud to showcase the impressive talent of
member artists in their annual show. Paintings, drawings, collage,
photography, print-making, ceramics, and sculpture created by the
Art League's members are on display at the League's Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery
October 31 through January 9, 2011. The Member's Exhibition is divided into
two parts in order to accommodate the more than 200 works of art created by
student and professional artists vying for top prizes. Prizes will be
awarded by noted artist and educator Winn Rea, a member of the Phoenix
Gallery in NYC and an Assistant Professor of Art at the C.W. Post Campus of
LIU. She is a process-based environmental artist whose works on paper,
sculptures, and installations have been exhibited extensively in South Korea
and the United States.

Art Talk on the highlights of the last 30 years Jo-Ann Corretti, Northport Artist. “It all started at the Northport Library...Thirty years ago I painted my first 4 scenes of Northport and went to print with them. The Northport Library was my first real showing of my newly created Northport pieces. Now 30 years later I am back with much experience, and a whole new body of work. 7th , 2010 Member Gerry Hirschstein is
participating in two upcoming shows. The first is the Art League of Long
Island's Members show running from October 31st until November 2nd. The Art
League is located on East Deer Park Rd in Dix Hills. He will be presenting a
painting entitled "New Hampshire Rest” The reception for this show is
Sunday, Nov 7th from 3:00 until 5:00 pm. Also, the Suburban
Art Leagues Members show, which opens Saturday November 12th through Sunday
January 5th. His piece called "Grandpa" will be unveiled. The show is
located at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at 48 Shelter Rock Rd in
Manhasset. The reception is scheduled for Sunday, from 1:00 to 3:00pm.
Viewing hours are daily from 9:00am to 9:00pm, however, after 3:00pm
call 516 627 6560 ext 133 for admission. Sunday hours are from 9:00am until
3:00pm.

"Illumination" works by 3D Graphic Artist, John J. DeRosa.
Northport Tasting Room & Wine Cellar, 70 Main Street, Northport, NY

program, Maya, an animator's tool, DeRosa turns it into an artist's tool to
create original fine art. He models simple primitive
solids into multi-faceted highly detailed three dimensional forms that trick
the viewer into believing the images are photographed still lifes, but in
actuality, they are fully computer generated. Light and
shadows are added to create the realistic images. Artists interested in an

The Northport Arts Coalition presents "Golden
Forests and Other Landscapes" by Shain Bard at the Northport Tasting
Room and Wine Cellar at 70 Main St., Northport. Shain Bard’s
"…placement of her subjects gives her work a special flavor. Open spaces and
a good sense of color, plus a fascination with the play of light…" have
made her the recipient of numerous "Best in Show" awards. Shain says of her
work, "People often point to my paintings and say they know that place. Then
I know that I have struck a chord in them; and yet, while they are somehow
familiar with the territory, they are also really "seeing" it for the first
time. It is those moments when we most fully connect to our surroundings,
those held-breath moments, that I am interested in. " Meet the artist

The NAC Executive Board, Advisory Board and NAC Coordinators got together with Northport Village Board members Mayor George Doll & Board Trustee Henry Tobin along with local Northport merchants, Fleming & Stacy Hansen from Copenhagen Bakery and Fred and Sue Richtberg, previous owners of Barefoot Image. The NAC gathering was called together to celebrate the many free arts events we do in the community and to thank our NAC advisory board members, NAC coordinators and our many avid supporters. The NAC Executive Board recognized and thanked each person at the gathering for their support and gave them a rose as a token of appreciation for their continued support. A big thank you goes out to Copenhagen Bakery for donating their beautiful and delicious celebratory cake for the NAC gathering along with a big thank you to Lisa Harris proprietor of Cafe Portofino for her delicious wraps, chili and salad and to Matt Spirn owner of the Northport Wine Tasting Room for his wonderful Portuguese red and white wines. It was a great day to get together to celebrate the arts.

Suffolk County PTA will collect over 1000 entries for their 2010 REFLECTIONS PROGRAM. Students in grades K-12 will submit works in literature, photography, visual arts, film editing, music composition and dance choreography. Judges are needed starting the week of November 8 through the end of November.
