NAC Artist Opportunity The 2011 Northport Art Walk Committee is soliciting Artists for participation in the Northport ArtWalk scheduled for 6 separate dates from April through September 2011. Seeking a diverse group of Artists working in art glass, collage, mosaics, watercolor, mixed media, photography, printmaking, sculpture , textiles, pottery, oil/acrylic painting and painting in both digital and/or traditional forms, sculpture, mixed media, fabric, weaving, collage, etc. Artists specializing in diverse or unusual media are encouraged to participate...If you created it, we'd like to see it. Jurying for Artist participation in the Northport ArtWalk will be the joint responsibility of the Northport ArtWalk Committee and the Northport Arts Coalition. The Northport ArtWalk is a self-guided walking tour of the many galleries, studios and eclectic gallery-for-a-day venues centered around and along Northport's picturesque Harbor and Main Street. The ArtWalk is one of the best ways for visitors to enjoy Northport's bustling and diverse Art community by bringing visitors to view the Art of established and emerging Artists. The festive atmosphere of Northport will be punctuated by musical performances; live Artistic demonstrations and street decorations as town visitors peruse the Art in restaurants, antique shops, boutiques and cafes that are part of this historic village.
 
Artists can choose to participate in one or more of the individual events that will be held on the third Sunday of each month beginning in April and ending in September. The September ArtWalk will be held on the second Sunday of the month, a week before Cow Harbor Weekend. The Art Walk will be from 1-5pm.Dates: April 17, May 15, June 19, July 17, August 21, and September 11, 2011
Fees are as follows: $10 Non refundable Application Fee;The Artist fee for participating in this Northport ArtWalk is $25 per event. The Artists must be a member of the Northport Arts Coalition to participate. Through March 28, 2011. A Timeless Legacy This exhibition highlights the breadth and quality of the Permanent Collection, which is devoted to European and American art.  Founded by industrialist and philanthropist August Heckscher, the Museum's core collection comprises Old Master paintings, English portraiture and 19th century European and American art that was dedicated by Heckscher to the citizens of Huntington in 1920.  Among the works on view from the original Heckscher gift are Lucas Cranach the Elder’s Virgin, Child, St. John the Baptist and Angels, 1534, the earliest painting in the collection, Franz Wolfgang Rohrich's Charles V of Holland and Jeanne La Folle, His Mother, Melchoir d’Hondecoeter’s Stripped of Borrowed Feathers: The Raven-Jackdaw and Francois Girardon’s rare bronze, Rape of Proserpine, 1693. Also on view are notable subsequent acquisitions, including George Grosz’s masterpiece, Eclipse of the Sun, 1926 and Marsden Hartley's Garmisch-Partenkirchen #1, 1933-34, as well as Helen Frankenthaler's July understated, 1967, which is on extended loan from the Heckscher family.  This installation highlights the Museum's most recent acquisition, Shinnecock Hills, a Long Island landscape by the American Impressionist William Merritt Chase, who directed a summer art school on the East End of the Island during the 1890s.  A selection of other works by the master and his numerous students is also on display. Through April 4th, 2011:"Island Passions" at The Art-trium Gallery, see this exhibit and explore the depths of island life. "Island Passions" will feature local artists such as Jennifer Lau, John Ellsworth, Pamela Long Nolan and Bobbie Schneider."This exhibit gives the chosen artists an opportunity to use their deeply creative skills to address the concept of “Island” – be it a tropical paradise, a harsh city street, or our own Long Island. Through a variety of media, each artist instills their personal voices in their work and then shares those passions with us," said Art-trium Gallery Curator, William Grabowski. Now through April 4, 2011. Pamela Long Nolan announces the installation of some of her large paintings along with those of Bobbi Schneider, and the photographs of John Ellsworth and Jennifer Lau at the Art-trium Gallery, a satellite gallery of the Huntington Arts Council.  The gallery is in the lobby of a large office building located at 25 Melville Park Rd. just off Rt. 110. To get there go east at the second traffic light south of the LIE.  The Gallery Hours are Monday-Friday 7am to 7pm.  Saturday 8am to 1pm.

This juried exhibition, now in its 15th year, features approximately 80 works of art by students in grades 9 through 12 attending public and private schools throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties.  With 52 schools participating, the Museum will receive more than 200 student artwork entries for adjudication. “Long Island's Best” is the only juried exhibition on Long Island that offers high school students the opportunity to show their work in a museum at The Heckscher Museum

May 7 - July 24 Edward Weston: Life Work “Edward Weston: Life Work” surveys the 50-year career of a giant of 20th-century photography at The Heckscher Museum

May 7 - July 17 Artists of the Stieglitz Circle In celebration of the Museum’s recent acquisition of John Marin’s “Huntington, Long Island No. 1,” 1952, this Permanent Collection exhibition places Marin in the context of the early American modernists championed by legendary gallery owner Alfred Stieglitz at The Heckscher Museum.

When Brahms took a seat in the train, he could not foresee that it would be the beginning of a most memorable journey. March 10-12th, 2011.Christine Darch will design costumes for the world premiere of a new work by Dwight Rhoden for North Carolina Dance Theatre, based on the life and work of visual artist Romare Bearden, whose work is known for textured collages depicting scenes of social customs in modern African American society.
 
March 13, 2011    The Blue Spruce Cloggers will present a free program of music and dance at the Hicksville Library, 169 Jerusalem Ave, Hicksville, at 2PM. Blue Spruce Cloggers perform high-energy clog, tap and Irish-step dancing accompanied by three Bluegrass musicians on fiddle, banjo, and mandolin.
